Average Recurrence Interval
Chantelle Mitchell x Jaxon Waterhouse
9 - 23 September 2023
Average Recurrence Interval is a site responsive exhibition from Chantelle Mitchell (VIC) and Jaxon Waterhouse (NT), furthering key research areas of their ongoing collaborative practice. This exhibition undertakes an investigation, drawn from the premise of the ‘average recurrence interval’ in meteorological contexts in which historical data generates the ‘return period’ for specific types of exceedances (i.e. rainfall exceedance, earthquakes, or floods). Working across matter, medium, intervention and archive, the ARI framework presents and opportunity to consider temporal questions, ideas of containment and material relationships. In this context of this exhibition, this unfolds through installation, documentation and encounter with recognition of environmental and built conditions that create breaks, ruptures or connections between and across time.
